Is there any other way to Cappodocia?

Hey, I'm going to be in Turkey in July, starting in Istanbul and working my way down the coast as far down as Fetihye ... and then I'd like to go inland to Cappodocia for a few days. BUT ... everything that I'm seeing in the tourbooks and the websites seems to be saying that the only way to fly into Kayseri and Nevsehir (Cappodocia's two airports) is from either Istanbul or Ankara? Is this right? There's NO way to fly to Cappodocia from Antalya, Bodrum or other, smaller towns and cities? It just seems insane to have to fly from Fetihye westward to Istanbul and then back eastward to Cappodocia! Are there smaller, local airlines that ply routes OTHER than out of Istanbul and Ankara? Thanks. Wish me luck!

I know you are asking about plane routes and you could probably look it up through Turkish Airlines or call them to find out (THY).
Have you considered taking a bus? It is longer for sure so if you are pressed for time I could see it wouldn't work out well but if you have the time, a bus wouldn't be so bad (the buses here are nice) and relatively inexpensive. You could get to Cappadocia via that route.
If you really want to fly and can't get a direct flight from Fethiye to Cappadocia then fly to Ankara, take a bus to Cappadocia (its about 3 hours south of Ankara) not too bad I don't think. Not really out of the way either if you use Ankara as your stop.

Thanks for your reply. By your use of the word "here," I'm guessing that you are currently in Turkey, yes? Must be nice. Yeah, we're trying to economize on time, as the bus ride from Fetihye to Antalya (the nearest airport) is already several hours. Still, you may have a good idea there ... while crisscrossing half of Anatolia seems odious enough, it sure beats flying all the way back to Istanbul just to fly right back!
The Turkish Airlines website was a little helpful, thanks. I think that we may be biting off more of Turkey than we can chew in only three weeks.
      Thanks again.

Yup, have been living here for a few years now. Turkey is great and you will enjoy your time here. There is too much to do and see that you could spend years and years here and still not see everything. My list of things I still want to do and see is miles long it seems. ;)
If I come across anything that sounds better I will let you know.
Also, I use a travel agent in Sultanahmet in Istanbul for all my travelling (in and out of Turkey) her name is Derya, she speaks english. The name of the agency is Sunset Tours. She would be able to figure out the best routes for you and how to get to Cappadocia easily if you want more info to contact her I can pass it on to you.
Have fun planning your trip to Turkey!

          - yeah, for about the first five hours... after that they sometimes seem a little less wonderful.

You could always just take a night bus from Fetihye to Cappadocia.
When I first came to Turkey, I took a bus from Cappadocia to Antalya
and yes, it is a LONG ride, but Turkish buses are cozy and clean
compared to bus travel in the US. It's also kind of nice to see areas
that you'd never see if you just flew over them. :) Good luck!

Hmmmmmmmm. A NIGHT BUS could be the best compromise, provided such a beast exists on the long and winding Fetihye-to-Cappodocia road. Remember: When I hear BUS, I hear GREYHOUND, aka, creepy drunks, highway breakdowns, cramped and tortuous seats, crying babies, jerky co-passengers who yak on cell-phones until the batteries die, revolting toilets, pointless and enigmatic stops, and lice. Is it possible to get even a halfway decent night's sleep on a Turkish bus? Almost like an inexpensive, rolling motel?

Hey, everybody, y'all rock ... thanks for all this helpful input. Hope to run into you guys somewhere between Istanbul and Antalya! First raki's on me ...

from everything i've heard as far as buses go they're tops.

busses in turkey are the way people travel. so you get the tea, coke, or juice servingss as well as a little bite to eat if you're lucky. as far as taking a fethiye - cappadocia bus, it will be comfortable (as far as i'm concerned you cant even compare grey hound to even with the worse bus company in turkey), but there will be more stops compared to a usual route. dont forget to bring your own music and headphones, or you may have the pleasure to listen to the latest arabesque hits (unless you like the wailing and pop beat combination).

just take it easy and dont try to be too planned (i know its hard when youre not turkish). remember, there are many different chances you can take as a tourist, and believe me, turkey is a great place to go off the trails and plans. just a little bit of advice from someone who is hopelessly homesick at the moment.
enjoy cappadocia, its one of the most dazzling places i have ever been.

btw- definitely go to ortahisar, which is the non-touristic town at cappadocia, stay there if you dont want the tourism bs of urgup, and just wander off into the valley on your own, and visit the abandoned houses as you wish. you will most likely (if you do) bump into interesting people.

ı have found i like BOSS the best (bus company) they have their own bathroom on the bus and yes its extremely clean!! the bus is just like an airplane, oh you know what i mean...very clean, new pillow covers and all that. definitely, buses are one of the best ways to travel around turkey. flying is good for quick hops of course but if you choose a bus, it really is a pretty smooth ride. there are tv's on some buses and snacks like mentioned in another post. bring your own food too if you want more than rolls and tea though. ;)
night buses are the most popular around here to travel on, personally i can never sleep sitting up and that means buses, planes, etc. and i always feel tired and out of sorts the next day but if you are one of those people who can sleep sitting up anywhere then overnight buses are the way to go!
btw, i am not a big fan of raki so you can buy me efes instead.
                    ;)
