Maple syrup in Turkey?

topic posted Sun, May 6, 2007 - 7:50 PM by  jenda
I'm traveling to the Aegean coast in less than ten days and I'm looking for additional gifts for my host families. Would maple syrup, or maple sugar candies be appropriate? Would they know what to do with the syrup? Would the candy survive the heat?

Thanks in advance!

    Sounds good to me.
Carrefour here has maple syrup... but it's about 20 dollars an ounce!

Yeah, Maple Syrup is a PERFECT gift.
I have not had it in over 4 years except for when I go visit the US. I can never bring myself to buy it here as it is super expensive. I mean...if I REALLY was craving it, I would but ...
Anyway, if your host(s) don't seem to know what to use it for..you could volunteer to make them breakfast one morning, make french toast or pancakes so they can pour the syrup over it! ;D

Aw shucks...stick to volunteering to make french toast then, hahahahahahahaha.
You can also remind them that when the maple syrup runs out they can still make the french toast and top it with butter, sliced strawberries (or other fruits) and powdered sugar, thats pudra sekeri in turkish for ya.
Oh...that makes me want german pancakes now, butter, lemon juice and powdered sugar. *drooling* I just need to learn how to make it first. ;)
